A short boat ride from the southern tip of Qeshm, the small island of Hengam is home to a few fishing villages, clear turquoise water and rocky coves. The trip there is part of the fun: boatmen head out into the strait where pods of Indo-Pacific humpback and bottlenose dolphins are often seen playing in the waves.
On the island, local women wearing the traditional embroidered face masks (borqa) run a lively market of handmade crafts, shells and spices by the jetty. Walk or ride along the coast to see the rock arches and the beaches, which in places sparkle with silvery sand.
