Tabiat (“Nature”) Bridge is modern Tehran’s favourite meeting place. Designed by the young architect Leila Araghian and opened in 2014, the 270-metre pedestrian bridge links two parks across one of the city’s busiest highways. Its three-dimensional steel truss creates levels, terraces and shaded corners where people sit, walk and talk.
The bridge won an Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2016, but its real success is how Tehranis use it: families strolling in the evening, students meeting friends, couples watching the sunset over the Alborz mountains. There are cafés and food stalls at both ends and in the parks beside it.
Highlights
- Multi-level steel truss walkways
- Sunset views of the Alborz mountains
